Alas, the grand experiment that is The Blog That Care Forgot has most likely come to end. The deities of the federal contracting realm have seen fit to banish me to the bitter hell that is Washington, DC. Instead of my leisurely 5 minute commute in New Orleans, I now swim in a inky 90-minute morass of wall-to-wall traffic each day. DC is a city populated by glass-eyed. soulless drones. In New Orleans we had many conversations about the uniqueness of the city, the food, the people. In DC, people talk about the value of their houses. Despite the amazing number of well-educated, cosmopolitan and prosperous people here, they have paid surprisingly scant attention to their quality of life. People live in DC because they have to ; folks live in New Orleans by choice (and some sacrifice). God grant me the strength to survive here. F I N I 13 Comments:![]() Wednesday, November 03, 2004

This is project I've been meaning to do for quite some time. Below are some predominantly African-American churches in the Algiers section of New Orleans. Of particular interest are the "
storefront" churches, which have always piqued my curiosity. New Orleans manages to support a dizzying quantity of churches, some large some tiny, and they form the backbone of the Black community. In fact on Thayer St. nearby, there are four churches in one block! Note all these photos were taken during services, and most seemed well attended. Algiers Church of God, Thayer Ave. Glory of Christ Christian Church, General Meyer Ave. , Algiers Love Outreach Christian Church, General Meyer Ave. , Algiers Second Good Hope Baptist Church, Elmira St., Algiers Worded Up Faith Ministry, Thayer St. , Algiers 8 Comments:![]() Sunday, September 26, 2004
Another nailbiter: with 36 seconds left St. Louis gets a touchdown. Then New Orleans ties with a field goal. Then in overtime another field goal wins for New Orleans. I haven't watched much this year, but the Saints looked just plain sloppy to me, although it looks like Aaron Brooks has finally stabilized into a solid, mature QB. We can't be winning games on field goals alone folks! Sheesh. 11 Comments:![]() Thursday, September 23, 2004
Today some co-workers and I had lunch at the Dry Dock Cafe, during which we practiced a uniquely New Orleans tradition, talkin' about food! I had the french-dip sandwich, one co-worker the alligator sausage po-boy, the other the fried oyster po-boy (or oyster loaf as he calls it). The saying goes "You're a New Orleanian if, during a meal, you're talking about the next one!" 4 Comments:![]() Wednesday, September 22, 2004
Youch. Ivan has regenerated in the Gulf. Right now its headed way over to Texas, and hopefully the Gulf waters are too cool and stirred up to create much activity. The hurricane center has four named storms on its homepage now. Sheesh. 1 Comments:![]() |
